Exposed Pillars strips a civic gallery back to its load path, leaving the board-marked columns that carry the roof fully visible as the only ornament the building requires. Each pillar was cast against reclaimed board formwork to record the timber grain, then left untreated to weather honestly across decades of public use. Visitors move between the pillars as though walking through a forest of poured stone. Here the engineering and the aesthetic are one and the same.
